In recent days, the LIFE ShepForBio project has been protagonist of two important scientific events.
On 17 September, as part of the International Mountain Conference in Innsbruck, the project presented a contribution on the activities carried out in these first few years to establish a European Network including pastoral schools, researchers and institutions, with the aim to promote pastoralism at European level, in particular by enhancing its role in biodiversity conservation and the provision of ecosystem services. This was a very interesting opportunity to further expand our network and discuss with many colleagues from other countries the importance of creating a community to support pastoralism.
Much more technical the contribution presented at the XXII National Ornithological Meeting, analysing the structure and composition of nesting bird communities in the project’s areas of intervention. Birds are considered excellent environmental indicators and, within the scope of ShepForBio, are used to assess the impact on biodiversity of conservation and restoration measures in pastures and grasslands.
