The LIFE ShepForBio project, in collaboration with the School of Advanced Studies for Extensive Sheep Farming in Calascio and the Rete Appia Association, is organising a series of online meetings on current pastoral issues of particular interest. The main theme of the programme is animal health management, with a focus on Classyfarm (biosecurity and animal welfare), pharmacological treatments (electronic drug register) and Blue Tongue by the Prevention Department of the South-East Tuscany Local Health Authority. The ASL veterinarians will address two other topics of particular interest to farmers, namely the requirements for animal movement and the functioning of the BDN (Zootechnical Register – National Database).
Rete Appia, on the other hand, will promote a workshop on raw milk production, a highly topical and sensitive issue which, if not managed properly, could jeopardise not only typical and particularly valuable products but also the jobs of many people who, every day, look after the land and provide ecosystem services that benefit the whole community.
Finally, there will be a forward-looking overview of the tools provided by the Common Agricultural Policy to support extensive farming, a workshop curated by Dr Michele Nori of the Directorate-General for Agriculture – European Commission.
