“Towards a New Shepherding: Schools, Stakeholders, and Strategies. Contemporary Perspectives on an Ancient Profession” is the title of the conference taking place on December 10 and 11 at Cascine del Riccio in Florence.
Over two days, companies, new and aspiring shepherds, researchers, and institutions will engage in discussions on how to communicate and support a new vision of shepherding: a sector deeply rooted in tradition, yet increasingly focused on integrating innovation, education, and multidisciplinary approaches.
Schools, which will be at the heart of the conference, can play a crucial role not only in offering young people the opportunity to explore this profession but also in raising awareness of the importance of the shepherd. As guardians of ancient knowledge, shepherds also play a pivotal role in providing ecosystem services that benefit the entire community: from preserving landscapes and biodiversity to mitigating the effects of climate change, and much more.
The conference is organized by LIFE ShepForBio and the Tuscany Region, partners of the project and promoters of the Shepherd School, in collaboration with Rete Rurale Nazionale, CREA, and the Associazione Riabitare l’Italia, which support the Young Shepherds’ School.
