The LIFE terrAmare project is entering its operational phase. Technical site surveys have now begun in the project areas, an essential step for gathering field data, identifying the main issues and defining the project actions in detail.
Between February and March 2026, the D.R.E.Am. Italia team, in collaboration with Legambiente and local management bodies, worked across Calabria and Puglia, launching survey activities at the Natura 2000 Network sites involved in the project.
In Puglia, activities were concentrated in the Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve, where an initial technical survey was carried out. The analysis also focused on evaluating interventions already implemented in the past by the managing body, with the aim of understanding their effectiveness in the medium term and guiding new actions.
In Calabria, site inspections covered several dune systems along the coast. At the Camigliano Dunes, critical issues emerged relating to erosion and the presence of unauthorised access points to the sea; on Brancaleone Beach, the effects of recent storm surges were observed, with clear impacts on the coastal equilibrium.
Significant pressures were also confirmed in the Angitola Dunes area, due in particular to uncontrolled access and the widespread presence of litter.
In addition to the technical aspects, the field visits provided an initial opportunity for direct dialogue with managing bodies, local authorities and stakeholders, a fundamental element in ensuring effective and collaborative interventions.
These site visits thus mark the practical launch of the project: activities are already in full swing and will continue over the coming weeks, accompanying the operational planning of interventions in the area.
