On 18 September, the workshop ‘Sustainability Shepherds: Ecosystem Services and Pastoralism’ brought together researchers, pastoralists and practitioners to highlight the crucial role of pastoralism in the conservation of ecosystems and biodiversity. Hosted as part of the ‘Territorios Pastoreados’ event, the meeting was a collaboration between LIFE ShepForBio, Fundación Entretantos and Fundación Global Nature.
Among the many topics covered, including through working tables and interactive discussions: grazing as a fire prevention tool, pastoralism and ecosystem services, marketing actions for the promotion of extensive livestock farming and the promotion of generational change. Special thanks to all participants for sharing their valuable experiences!
The discussions will culminate in a manifesto advocating sustainable pastoral practices and the critical role of pastoralists in ecosystem management.
