The first part of the school ended last Sunday with an outing to the grasslands of the Pratomagno SPA-SAC, one of the project’s focus areas, where the focus was on grassland biodiversity.
14 modules, 22 days, including classroom activities and visits to farms, more than 170 hours of lessons that involved 22 teachers and 7 livestock farmers.
Now for aspiring livestock farmers phase two, the internships on farms, begins. Six have been selected this year, five in Tuscany and one in Romagna. The students will share a month of work with the breeders, guests on their farms; this will give them the chance to fully immerse themselves in this work, which is wonderful and full of satisfaction but requires a lot of hard work and sacrifice. They will put into practice what they have learned in class and learn all the tricks of the trade. The internship will not be continuous but, in agreement with the needs of the farms, will cover the different stages of the work (milking and milk processing, births, extensive pasture management), so as to give them a chance to see and learn as much as possible.
