Two intensive and activity-packed months for LIFE ShepForBio; the latest news was about the pastoral schools in Florac, but a lot has happened since then. To remain on the school theme, our eight students have completed the theoretical course and almost completed the first part of the internship in the farms of the Foreste Casentinesi National Park. We will meet up with them again in the autumn for the second part of the stage, with a focus on livestock farm activities.
The first interventions to restore the grasslands in the Pratomagno area have begun; over 19 hectares have already been cleared. But these are not the only measures carried out; numerous water troughs have been restored and their functionality improved. A new pasture concession holder has also been identified in Pratomagno: a breeder who will help us, with cows and donkeys, to maintain and restore the ridge grasslands.
This is the second concession have been assigned as part of the project, after the one at Eremo Bertesca, on the Romagnolo side of the Park. The bulk of the work will resume at the end of the summer, particularly on the Romagna side, where the damage caused by the tragic flood last May has forced us to review the organisation of some interventions.
